All You Want to Know About AIC’s JAD Line of Heat Exchangers
Do you need AIC’s JAD heat exchangers for your heat transfer application? If you’re like most of our customers, you’ve probably wondered which heat exchangers are the right ones for your use. You’ve probably even wondered what the differences are between all the types of heat exchangers we offer. And if there’s one thing we pride ourselves on (in addition to the quality of our products), it’s our efforts to provide customers with the knowledge and information they need.
The truth is, the differences in heat exchangers can be difficult to spot if you don’t know what you’re looking for. That’s why we’re giving you this in-depth look at our JAD line. They’re unlike our other heat exchange products in several ways.
Ready to find out how? Read on to discover what JAD heat exchangers from AIC have to offer.
The JAD line of heat exchangers have a vertical, shell and coil design. The intricate layers of engineering details create a slim, compact profile for this particular type of heat transfer product. This is achieved by concentric layers of corrugated tubes within the shell (smooth tubes versions are also available). The tubes form a helical shape, optimizing performance while saving on space.
In fact, an inner tube bundle like this is quite unique in industry. Why is this space saving heat exchanger an advantage? Its innovative helical design allows the exchanger to provide optimal performance in even the most demanding applications, like those that require close temperature approaches, the sub-cooling of condensate, or the superheating of steam.
The layers of helical tubes provide a large surface area for heat exchange, and it can withstand high temperature differentials between mediums, variations in steam pressure, and light shocks within the system because of the inherent spring-like characteristics of the design. And the corrugated shape actually creates turbulence within the fluid flows. Turbulence may sound like an issue, but it’s actually a good thing. You see, the agitation in the fluid allows for better heat distribution, like when you stir food to disperse the heat after microwaving it.
Another good thing about a design that creates turbulence? You’ll find that it reduces the instances of deposits building up inside the units. That’s because they’re less likely to settle on surfaces when they’re in constant motion.
The other distinctive feature, in addition to the small size and unique shape, is the angular connections at the ends of the tube. This is another feature you don’t see on many other heat exchangers on the market, and it serves several purposes. For one thing, they don’t have any sharp corners or crevices, which helps to reduce areas where deposits may build up. That means they last longer and require less maintenance. Additionally, these connections provide a smoother transition for fluids in and out of the unit.
Because these units are installed vertically, they require less installation space, and can be used as either a condenser or evaporator to support the changing of fluid phases (fluids can transition from steam to liquid and vice versa) within the unit.
Our JAD’s fully welded, stainless steel 316L composition ensures both mechanical strength and operational durability, while its passivated outer shell – credited for the light sheen exhibited on each unit – further elevates its corrosion resistance.
So why might you need JAD heat exchangers? Here are a few of the applications that would benefit from this design.
